Home
I've been a fan of Meister Eckhart for a while. One of my favourite quotations is "God is at home with us but we are strangers to ourselves." Today, I stumbled across another little gem,
"God is at home, it's we who have gone out for a walk."
Coming Home
I looked outside
For a reality beyond reality
Another world in heaven
Up there, somewhere
Just not the same as this one.
The one where God lives when he's not down here
Healing the sick and dying on crosses.
Nothing.
Perhaps another faith, another way
A search commences
The church, the mosque, the synagogue.
From east to west and back again
Meditation, prayer, spells and stones.
Nothing.
Books, Rabbis, pastors, preachers, teachers, gurus, writers, speakers, singers, poets...
Nothing.
Perhaps God does not exist I thought.
There's nothing else but this little world we live in,
Nothing but flesh and bones and people and trees,
Nothing but friendships and sharing, and work and play.
So, I might as well enjoy it,
Treasure the moment,
Live it well, live it fully, live it deeply.
And now,
What is this?
The thing I was searching for,
Was at home all the time.

Dear Ruthie,
This is a lovely poem you have written. It depicts the searching, the dead ends along the way, the misinformation, all the choices, the resignation, and then, the Light! Yes, we are home - and it is so very blissful. Heaven is right here, right now.
Thank you Ruthie (and Meister Eckhart!)

Your comments, Eckhart's, and the poem touch on something pivotal for me. The times I feel most forsaken by God are the times when I have shut myself off from God. God does not leave me; I leave God.
My faith is rooted in trusting, knowing experimentally, that God is still with me, even when I think God is not.
Blessings,
Liz
We shall not cease from exploration,
and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started,
and to know the place for the first time.
~ T. S. Eliot
This quote from Eliot seems quite fitting :)
From C.S.Lewis' Screwtape Letters - from a senior devil to a junior one. (Rough translation):
"Be not mistaken, Screwtape, the cause of our Father Below is never in greater jeopardy than when one of these miserable Christians looks out upon a universe from which every vestige of God has disappeared...
And still obeys."
